I love all the information on our Drummond Clan. I have quite a bit on our side, but never enough. The last two entries of mine are Robert Drummond born 1808 Chestnut Street Phil., Pa. in 1808. He married Mary Rains. His father
was also Robert Drummond who came here as a baby. He married
Elizabeth Case. It seems that there were reports from not only Pa.,(Londenderry area?) but New York, New Jersey,Maryland, etc. before they settled in Ross County Ohio for a while, then on to Indiana around Decatur.
If anyone can help me straighten out this mess, I would greatly be in your debt. I do have documented family history
from Robert and Mary Rains on to today.
Thanks
Shelly

The first-ever Drummond Family Reunion will be held April 28-29 in Jasper, Alabama in conjunction with the Heart of Dixie Highland Games. Start making plans now to attend this two-day even. A Host Hotel and meeting site will be announced in a few weeks. Jasper, Alabama is about 40 miles NW of Birmingham, Alabama. The city is full of Drummonds, who descend from William Drummond, colonial Governor of North Carolina who was hanged for his participation in Bacon's Rebellion. Please e-mail me and I will let you know more details about the Reunion. Papers and family charts are arriving daily on the Drummonds.

As VP/Editor of The Clan Drummond Society of North America, I would like to invite a call of family charts, family histories. stories, photos in order to publish a book, "The Family of Drummond within the year 2000. You can e-mail me or send your family groups sheets to John W. Cargile, 12208 Mt. Olive Road, Coker, AL 35452. Creative Services, a book publishing company that I own, will publish the book once it is determined that we have a comprehensive book for publication. Already dozens of family tree charts, stories are coming in. I can accept Gedcom files through FTM. This is not part of the Clan Drummond Society of North America, but an individual effort on my part to begin the long process of putting together a book for posterity on this great family and connecting families. I was a contributor to a book titled Cargill/Cargile/Cargal of the South and Southwest, and I know what needs to be done to complete this project.

My father is a full blooded Drummond from Tennessee. His mother and father were third cousins at the time of their marriage, her maiden name being Drummonds. Their names were Jake Drummond and Bertha Drummonds. My grandfather used to tell me of a great, great grandfather who came from Canada as a fur trader in the seventeen hundreds. My grandfather was born in Tenessee in 1893. If anyone has traced your family tree to Tennessee, or recognizes any of this family story I like to hear from you.

I am the direct descendant of the Drummonds, Dukes of Perth, as such I feel I must correct your history of the Drummonds, the Earl of Perth did not go into exile, nor as most would have it did he die en route to France.
He came ashore in the NE of England and travelled inward to the small village of Penshaw. There while hiding from the English he became a Ferryman conveying people across the River Wear,he was helped by the then Lord Lambton who recognised him but never gave him up to the government.
I have in my possession a much more detailed history about my forebears, if enough people would like to see it, please e-mail me at
steve00maguire@hotmail.com
PS If you travel to Penshaw Village on the outskirts of Sunderland and Washington you will see the gravestone of the earls son Thomas, inscribed upon it you will read the words THE TRUE HEIR TO THE EARLDOM OF PERTH.

I am a Sinclair, visit clan Sinclair online, and I wish
to learn more about the drummond family. I am looking
to spend time at family events and to get to know
the family, its values and its geneology. I am a single
33 year old that seeks female drummond company in
my research on your family tree, please e mail if
you have an interest. If anything we can relocate you

take place after we read our geneology books, right?
Hope you have seen the movie "Elizabeth" and read the
book "Mary Queen of Scots" available for purchase at

it interest me more than my own.

Our Drummond roots go back to the First Earl of Perth. The
Drummond Castle was offered to a great-great- grandfather
some time back , as was the title Earl of Perth, and it was
refused. These records were lost sometime back . There is no
way to document this now!! I have been to the Drummond Castle
and it is lovely, especially the grounds.

I got on this site via looking for the Woods name. I have Woods on my mother's side and on my husband's mother's side. If anyone could help me, please do. I just started looking for information on my family tree and I am not doing very well. All the information that I see is dated way back so far, I don't have the slightest idea if they would be related or not. The Woods on my husband's side go back to Mary Ingalls. The one that was captured by indians and finally escaped and walked home. The Woods on my mother's side eventually go back to France. How do I get started? I really could use any help anyone could give me. Thank you very much.

Still hoping to find the parents of James Drummond b. 1764 in Cumberland County, PA. We changed our e.mail address. His passage was paid 9/20/1745 by Jonathan Robeson from PA.

Hello,
Ever since my trip to Scotland last summer I simply can't seem to get enough. ;-) Now I've programmed an all-Scottish concert for next season of the Columbia, Missouri community choir I conduct. I would like very much to conduct the concert is kilt and regalia but really cannot afford to buy the oufit for such limited usage. I know I can rent it but not with a Drummond tartan (only the Scottish National Tartan). I have no desire to offend anyone and if I do please just mark it up to my ignorance. Would it be possible to rent or borrow a Drummond kilt for a performance in May of 2000? Please respond by e-mail. Thank you for you consideration.

Dear Sirs,
I have among my ancestors found a lieutenant colonel, Jacob Drummond, who served as a mercenary under the Swedish king, Gustavus Adolphus during the 30-year war. The first information about him is that he served as a second lieutenant at the Swedish Kalmar regiment in 1630 and he died as a lieutenant colonel and commendant on the island of Fehmarn. His 3 children were nobilitated 4 years after his death under the name of Dromond. He was married to Elisabeth Clerck who died after 1675.
I wonder if you would know where I could find further information about his ancestors.
Kind regards

Returned from a wonderful trip to Scotland last week. I had a memorable visit to Drummond Castle, just past the quaint little town of Muthill. My thanks to Joe Buchanan, the caretaker, for a private tour of the keep. I got some excellent shots of the gardens and the grounds from the top of the keep. While there weren't too many flowers in bloom on Easter Sunday, the gardens are still spectacular. I would recommend a visit to Drummond Castle to anyone planning to visit Scotland. It's about 1-1.5 hours from Edinburgh by car.

Hi- I'm Andy Drummond, and I am pleased to see all the entries from so many diverse families! I am originally from Indiana, son of James Arthur Drummond M.D. and Sharon Sue Shaner R.N.- have a sister too, named Tamara Ann Drummond J.D. I would be interested to hear from anyone in the Indiana area who might know more about our collective history, or just know my folks in general. Otherwise, here's to the clan, however spread out it might be.

Your site is great! Paricularly to someone who just found out she is connected to the clan. I just finished my Drummond line in America and had to see if there was anything related to the Drummonds in Scotland on the internet and there you were. My father told me of his g-grandmother who was Olive Drummond who married George Washington Lincoln and lived in Maine. My research found that Alexander Drummond of advanced age came to Georgetown, Maine in 1729 with his grown children and grandchildren from Coppa, Ireland. His parents had originally gone to Northern Ireland from Scotland. Looks as though I am stuck as to ancestors prior to Alexander. If anyone is familiar with this line maybe you have more data to share. Ruth

You have made a fine web-page. I am happy that Clan Drummond has its own page. I hope that you and the Earl of Perth are doing well. The much deserved pride in one's heritage as shown by your site is, I think, yet another fine example of how all those of the British Isles can at last be themselves and be so while living in peace with their neighbors--whether Scottish, English, Welsh, or Irish. Good luck sir!

The fact that the Clan Chief, The Earl of Perth, who is my grandfather, has not explicitly authorised this site should not be taken as any kind of slight to the site, which is excellent. My grandfather is a very spry and on the ball 91 year old, but the internet is still science fiction to him!
Personally I am not sure that the Clan Chief authorising any particular site is worthwhile with the net changing so fast.
The Standing Council of Scottish Chiefs is considering setting up clan web sites under its umbrella and if this initiative goes ahead then Clan Drummond must certainly participate.
It is good to see pictures of Drummond Castle, but I think that Stobhall too should be illustrated. After all, it is an older family home than Drummond and is where the Chief lives.
It is great to see so many people from all over the world taking such pride in their Drummond heritage.

Great site. My grandfather was James Beggs and came to the U.S. in 1902 with several brothers. He settled in Philadelphia along with another brother named Sam. I know that my grandfather lived in Glasgow, where he worked as a carpenter for a time before coming to the states. His mother was Mary Beggs and lived in Northern Ireland near what is now Larne. Hope to visit at least Scotland this year to begin to retrace some of the family roots. Any suggestions would be appreciated. God bless.

I am researching my Drummond ancestry. I have only touch a very small portion of my Drummond heritage. Please see my FTM site at http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/t/h/o/Jeffrey-G-Thompson/ for what I have thus far. According to my Great-grandmother Ella Florence Drummond 1882 - 1969, our Drummond forbearers came over from Ireland in 1778, just before the Rev. War. John or James ran away from home in Northern Ireland (Father was an Earl) went to Liverpool, England and was shanghaied and brought to America. Ran away from ship with companion but was traced by shipmates bloody tracks. Sailors arriving, the companion climbed a tree, was caught and shot. James Drummond saved himself by crawling into a hollow log. For revenge he joined the Continental Army and was granted land at Haverstraw. James brother John inherited the title of Earl and then James inherited it at Johns death, but refused it.
I am not sure which Clan John or James was from. Maybe someone out there can help? E me any time with information or questions. Thanks Jeff.

Love this site! It is one of the best I have seen. I knew they filmed part of Rob Roy at the castle, and am glad to know how much of was done there. Since my mother's maiden name was Drummone, I have a double interest. We have traced our tree back to William R. Drummond, who was born in 1793 in Kentucky. We can't prove his ancestry, but think his father was James, who married Lucinda Josling. William R lived to be 105 years old, and the cause of death was said to be injury in a logging accident!. Men were men in those days, at least if their name was Drummond. Any one have any further info on the ancestors of my line? I will exchange info with anyone.

I am beginning a family history search. Great Grandfather was GEORGE BEGG, b. 6/6/1817, Aberdeen married 1/21/1858 at Whitby, Ontario, Canada to CHRISTINA OGSTON, b. 2/27/1825, Auquharney (?), Scotland.
GEORGE BEGG had two brothers: ALEXANDER BEGG and JONATHAN BEGG. First cousin was JOHN BEGG (distiller at Balmoral). My husband is a member of Clan Hay, and we will be in Scotland mid September to visit our "roots." Any information would be appreciated. Thank you for an informative web site.

I enjoyed visiting your website, even though I have no Scottish roots to my knowlege. I've just created the Connect With Surnames Webring. This webring is only
for websites that are listed at Connect With Surnames, which is a surname
registry http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Bluffs/7708 Since it's very
easy to get listed, there is no reason not to be!! :-) CWS has had over 9000 visitors since June 23, 1998, 1600 different surnames, 256 members of the mailing list to receive updates, a surname specific webring directory, and a prayer page. First submit your
surnames(if you haven't already) at
http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Bluffs/7708/surnamesubmit.html and then
join the webring at http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Bluffs/7708/cws.html
Further instructions are found on those pages. If you don't have a
website and would like to just browse through the ring member sites, go to
http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Bluffs/7708/cws.html

As you can see I am a Drummond from Perth, Scotland! My sister is trying to compile a family tree and I decided to browse the internet to see if there was any info on my family name. I had no idea there would be a site! Unfortunately myself and my sister will be the last Drummonds of this family, but there's plenty more in Perth.

Amazing! I am Deborah Drummond, grand daughter of
James Drummond in London, and Great grand daughter of
James Drummond of Campbeltown who died in WW1.
His name is on the Campbeltown War memorial in Scotland.
I was unable to locate his grave though. If anyone knows
where he is buried, please let me know. If anyone knows how I can find out, please let me know.
We came to Australia in 1970.
I am amazed to see so many of the clan in the U.S.A.
ANd glad there are a few of us here in Oz.
I wonder how we are all related?
I have just started tracing my heritage, and I am thrilled with it all!
I would love to hear from anyone who knows my grandfather, or any of my relatives in England.
I would love to hear from any clanspeople!
Gang warily!

My name is Robert Drummond and I was born in EDINBURGH ,SCOTLAND , thirty odd years ago. The name Robert Drummond has been very popular down through the generations of my family including my father , grandfather and great great grandfather. We have just started our research and found many of our ancestors to have been born in East Lothian and in particular, Stenton. Our earliest finding has been for Peter Drummond who would have been my great great great grandfather.

I hope to go to Scotland some day to see the Clan MacDonell of Keppock which the MacKillop are a sept of. My 6 greats grandfather being David MacKillop. Also I found that my 6 greats grandmother whom he married was a Drummond and that there is a Clan Drummond. I'm often on the internet trying to find someone researching either one of these families hoping to find out more information.
I hope to find the person who can completely convince my brother that we are truely connected to this Daivd MacKillop and Margaret Drummond. Even though many family researchers follow the same track of research to link us up with this couple who married on June 23, 1694 in Kincardine parish, Perthshire, Scotland. That they had at least three daughters: Janot, Margaret, and Katrin - born between 1698 and 1707.
Some members of the New Hampshire family (living in Henniker) say that David and Margaret came from Londondery, Ireland and that their son, David II ( our 5 greats grandfather), was born on the ocean. There is no proof for this statement. David II's birth being recorded at Chester, NH as 1709. It is assumed, however, that the McKillop family went from near Castle Stirling, Scotland to protestant Ireland (counties of Antrim and Londonderry) before any members of the family came to America.
My brother just has not found a true connection between this couple and our David II MacKillop (McKillop, McKillips, McKellips). But I'm convinced because the family in Henniker is related to us and they tell this story that has been handed down thru the years. Hard to get documentation after so many years. But I think family memories count for something.
I'd like to hear from anyone that has researched this Margaret Drummond who married David MacKillop in 1694 in Perthshire, Scotland.

My earliest known ancestor was Joshua Drummond b. Nov.13,1763 in Ireland, d.Sept.30,1831 in Harrison Co. Virginia (later W.Va). His son was William whose son James Henry Drummond moved with his family to Missouri. James had a son Philander whose son Arlyn was my father. The complete chart could be found online at which is otherwise known as the Cragg Family Reunion Homepage. I would enjoy hearing from others interested in this line. Thank You.

I have reciently discovered my family name and that it is associated with the clan Drummond. Believe me when I tell you this news was better than a Christmas present to me. I am adopted and have no other information on my back ground. The fact that I actually have a history, regardless how skimpy , is of great comfort to me. I was pleased to find a web site devoted to the clan Drummond and I will be returning to it again.

Hi, I am descended from a woman variously known as "Lady Margaret Campbell" or "Lady Drummond," who in the maternal line was descended from some major Drummond personages. Margaret Campbell ( ala "Lady Campbell" or "Lady Drummond." Here is the narrative from my web page entry on her (located
at http://members.aol.com/thetoofish/joelines/ellbru.htm
b: ABT 1569
"Our records indicate that Margaret Campbell (circa 1571- 8 Aug 1631) married first (prenuptial
marriage contract was dated 19 July 1589) Andrew DRUMMOND, eldest legal son of William
Drummond of Balmaclone. By this marriage Margaret had two sons John & Thomas Drummond,
and daughters Beatrix, Jane, Margaret, & Christina Drummond. Andrew died 24 March 1604.
Margaret married second 25 May 1605 according to the Register of Privy Council of Scotland
(Vol. 7, page 600) Alexander Magruder of Innerfeffray & Balmaclone. By this marriage, Margaret
had sons James (1607-pre 1676), Alexander Magruder (1610-1677) who migrated to Calvert Co.,
Maryland c1652 where he had much land, John b. 1614, and daughter Margaret. Following
Alexander Magruder's death, Margaret married a third time to Donald Campbell in Balmaclone
(marriage contract dated 1617). No children were born of this marriage.
Margaret was, however, the daughter of Mr. Nicholas Campbell of Delvany who acquired the lands
of Kethick (Keithock) from his brother David circa 1576. Nicholas (Nicol) of Kethick was the natural
son of Donald Campbell, Abbot of Coupar who, in turn was the fourth son of Archibald, 2nd Earl of Argyll.
"She also enclosed genealogical charts of the Campbells of Kethick which and I quote, "clearly shows
Margaret as the daughter of Kethick". She further stated that these charts were prepared by Herbert
Campbell, noted genealogist and historian, in the 1920s. The originals are housed in the Office of the Lord
Lyon in Edinburgh."

Tracing the roots of Francis (Maria?) Drummond, wife of John Conner married about about 1785, and settled in Cherry Tree, Pensylvania.
Any help will be appreciated, as there are a lot of the Conner/Drummond decendents interested in our roots prior to 1785. Francis lived
to the age of 104 and is burried in the Sardis Cemetery, Westmorland County, Pennsylvania. Any information/background will be appreciated.

This site has been exciting to read and find out so much about the Drummond heritage. I actually grew up near Columbus, Ohio, and recently moved here to Iowa. My father and relatives have traced our family tree through southern Ohio and back to (I believe) Philadelphia, but that's as far as they have been able to go. My father is very much into tracing the ancestry, visiting cemeteries, etc. I will have to find out some of the specific names and dates and then come back to this website. Maybe someone will be able to help us get past Philadelphia. Many thanks to the creator of this website!

My name is Monica Drummond. I am from Malagash NS. I found the information you provided very exciting and useful I have always been interested in my family background but noone in my family knew anything. I will be making a trip in the summmertime to Scotland I hope something will come up then. My great grandfather name was John Drummond he came to NS in the 1900 he was only 9 years old. I never got to meet him for he passed away a week before I was born. He was from Edinburgh Scotland and we were from the Drummond of Perth clan. My great grandmother's name was Agnes Drummond. Her parents migrated to Australia in 1842 and settled at Woodside near Adelaide where her family ran a dairy farm. She married Frances Daniels, a french sailor in the late 1880's and my grandfather (also named Frances was born in 1896). He fought in the First World War as a driver in the 18th Battalion AIF artillery and managed to meet some of his relatives while stationed in France. I have a small business called Clan Drummond, which involves malt whisky tastings.

Great Site!
I've just started my research into our Drummond family
line. I'd like to talk to anyone with information on
the Drummond family that hails from Virginia in the
early 1800's. I know I'm related to Allen Drummond
who was born in West Virginia and whose father was
born in Virginia. Allen Drummond (age 59) was living
in Southern Ohio during the 1880 Census. West Virginia
became a state in June 1863. Perhaps Allen was born in
the region that became West Virginia?
Any tips you have for searching out data in this time period
or region of the country would be greatly appreciated.

As you see, I now have a guest book up and running. I thank all who suggested me putting one up.
One of the main reasons that I didn't put one up sooner was that I really didn't have all of the information needed to set one up. Thanks to some helpful information from Celt.net and Mark's Script archive, I now have it up and running.
I hope that you will all make use of it.
