Love the site! My Grandmother Drummond traced our family back to William and the castle some years ago, but I never looked further. My family and I would love to go to Scotland and see our "ancestral home" one day.

Thanks for taking the time to produce the website. I have found with the help of Jim Callendar(Historian and Tartanologist), and the Perth Scotland, public library that my family was associated with the Drummond Clan. My surname is not a large name overall but is common in Perth. I traced my family in Perth back to about the early 1500's. I am proud to be a part of such an honored clan. Any further information that anyone would like to share concerning My family and the Drummond Clan would be greatly appreciated.

Hi all, I am an aussie Drummond who is now living in Edinburgh for a couple of months with the prospect of tracing my family tree further than I have been able to from Australia. After getting quite disheartened when I couldn't find anything at the local library I paid my money and got a seat in the New Register House in Edinburgh which holds all the births, marriage, deaths and census records from pre 1855 and post 1855. I had been able to chase back to 1832 when my great-great-great grandfather was born and now I have found out who his mother was and that there was another 6 children. They come from a little town (Parish in the old days) in Stirling call Tillicoutry and from talking to people in these parts not much happens in that part of Scotland now. I am now in the process of finding out who his father was which is taking me back to New Register House to look through census records from 1841.
For anyone who is trying to trace their family tree go to the library and find a book called "Tracing your Scottish Ancestors" - by Cecil Sinclair. This book has been so much help to me it gives a step by step of where to start and what all the different records are that have been kept and where they are.
It is such a wonderful thing to be doing if we can't find the records now can you imagine my kids, kids trying to find anything I am loving this experience not only of Scotland but of the whole history lesson I am having it is so exciting to find that one name or that one place.
Gang Warily all.

Wow, what a fantastic site and what an incredible castle! I am thrilled to be part of such an amazing clan!
p.s. My maternal grandfather was named Arthur Drummond and I know nothing about his family other than he ran away from home at 16 and came from a family of many brothers and sisters and his father was a minister. Perhaps in Ohio? If this might ring any bells with anyone please let me know.

I really enjoyed this site and finding out about my family. It is great to see so many of us!from all over the world. I have tried to find out about my ancestors my great great grandad was Robert Drummond and first came to this area around 1895. He was married to a women called Catherine. My Duncan Cameron Drummond thier youngest son, my great grandfather, was born in Scotland on January 11th 1883. His youngest son is my grandfather, and his youngest son my father Stuart Drummond. It would be great to hear from anyone who knows anymore about my ancestors as it has proved hard to trace any futher back than this

Fantastic to see such a rich history of the Drummond name!
I need some clarification on an issue my grandfather Leonard Drummond raised a while ago. He explained that the Drummond name originated from a Hungarian name "DeDrymenn" (pronounced derdrymen).I am curious to hear more on this subject, can anyone help? And I would love to hear from any Aussie Drummond's I may be related to.
I am the daughter of Douglas Drummond- son of Leonard Drummond- son of Archie Drummond...and that's as much as I know. Can you help??

I have been logging onto this sight since 1998 when I first tripped overseas chasing my family history. I have now taken my first trip to Scotland where I got very excited about all the information that is there for me to look at. So I am now moving to Edinburgh for 2 months to dig dig dig and see what I can find. Looking on this sight there is alot of Drummonds from the US I know there is also alot of us in Australia but it doesn't look like to many Aussies drop into this sight for a look. Tell all Drummonds you know about this sight all your relatives they just might know a bit more information than the rest of us.
Good luck to all of you who are chasing it is a wonderful adventure and takes some very exciting turns.

Advice to Drummonds re Drummond Castle and general travel in Scotland: get The Blue Guide to Scotland by John Tomes. It will give you tour guidance, politics (old), and plenty of history for every location. That's where I learned about my umpteenth great-grandmother, Margaret Drummond. Another good read on the Drummond history is Nigel Tranter's Chain of Destiny. May you all see the gardens, one day. Regards.

I was born a Drummond in Selkirk, Scotland. My father,James, was the youngest of three Drummond sons, the other two being William and John. Son of John is also a William, one Bill Drummond, one half of the pop music duo, KLF,who made it to top of the charts some years ago and became somewhat controversial counter culture figures. I have a brother in Canada who carries on the family line. Scotland is still my spiritual home and will always be so. Good Fortune to all true Drummond's.

Hi all,
What a bitter-sweet site for me to stumble across. I just returned from Scotland 3 days ago from a fishing trip. I have always been interested in my Drummond lineage but had no idea just how interesting it is.
While in Scotland (just outside Turriff) I made inquiries about Drummond Castle but could not find anyone who had heard of it. I looked on the road atlas of Scotland and it was not marked. I didn't have access to the web so that was not an option. I had decided that it either did not really exist or that it was probably in ruins and on private/inaccessable land. WOW, how wrong I was. I did a search today out of curiosity and not only did I find info on THE castle, but I also found all of this great and interesting info.
I am planning to return next year. Needless to say, the fishing will certainly take a back seat on that trip!! I have relatives who are researching our genealogy so hopefully I will have plenty of info when I return.
Gang Warily!

Looking for my ggrandfather Maxwell Drummond with very limited information.
He was born somewhere in Scotland c.1860 to unknown parents.
Married Clare Gertrude Ward c.1898 in India.
Children were Lillian, Mavis and Clare.
In 1912 they were all living in the Drouin/Warragul area of Victoria, Australia.
Maxwell died 1940 in Ballarat, Victoria.
I cannot find a Maxwell Drummond of any discription in Scotland. I have been told it is not a common Christian name for a Drummond.
Could I be looking for a ---?--- Maxwell Drummond with possible marriage connections to the MAXWELL faimily.

This is a wonderful website and I am so pleased to have found it. I have recently been to Scotland on holdiday and was overwhelmed to find there is so much family history. My great grandparents and grandparents came from Tillicoultry and I would love to contact anyone who may be related to me through them. They were John C. Drummond, who married Amelia Moir Pow, they had 2 children that I know of - John Drummond and Jeanie Moir Drummond. Jeanie married Robert Howie and had 1 son who died in the war, and John (my grandfather) became a doctor who moved to Liverpool with his wife Elsie Hay and 5 children. My dad emigrated to Rhodesia in 1947, where I was born. Please contact me if you have any info. Many thanks

Hello Drummonds! I have married a Drummond who is orginally from Indiana.
We have 5 children who have endless questions about the Druumond History.
I know that my husbands father is Paul Drummond born in the 1920's or 30's in Indiana.
I know that my husbands father had several siblings one of whom did
an extensive research on Drummond in the Indiana/Ohio/Illinois area and came up with this: Hannah Lincon (sister of THE
Abe Lincon) is the great great great great (not exactly sure "how" many times great) grandmother
of my husbands father Paul Drummond. I really need family lineage info especially for my children who would like to know
more of the Drummond family. Unfortunately my husbands father Paul Drummond divorced and then died shortly after so we have not much info.
If you are related or siblings to Paul Drummond Sr. (born in 1920-30's) then please email me at mogchick@aol.com. THANKS in advance! Lovely to see so many Drummonds!

The site explains about the history and tells about the drummond but mabye you should put some pictures to make it better. I think that this site is better than any other clan sites that i have seen.

Hello,
Thanks for a great website!!
I am a direct descendant Clan Drummond and would love to hear from anyone connected with family! My lineage follows; names in direct line are marked with asterisks for ease of reference:
Clan Drummond
The Lords Drummond
Descendants of Malcolm Drummond
Generation No. 1
1. **SIR MALCOLM1 DRUMMOND** was born Bef. January 31, 1299/00, and died Aft. January 01, 1344/45.
Children of SIR MALCOLM DRUMMOND are:
2. i. **SIR JOHN2 DRUMMOND**, b. Bef. January 01, 1324/25; d. Abt. 1360.
ii. MARGARET DRUMMOND, d. January 31, 1374/75, Avignon, France; m. (1) JOHN LOGIE; m. (2) DAVID II KING OF SCOTS DAVID.
Generation No. 2
In the middle of the 14th century Sir John Drummond married the last of the Montfichets who owned the lands of Cargill and Stobhall. They moved from about three miles away to Stobhall where the Chapel may already have been standing. There are little or no remains of the house they built and where the Drummonds lived for over 100 years and from which came two Queens of Scotland: Margaret and Annabella. In 1490 the 1st Lord Drummond, father-in-law of Robert III who had married Annabella, obtained permission from the King to build a fortified Castle. This he did on an outcrop of rock calling it Drummond Castle. It is as the crow flies about 25 miles from Stobhall which was always kept for other members of the family, for hunting and for fishing.
At the end of the 16th century there were changes at Stobhall: the small Castle and the Porch and the date of the changes 1578 were added to the Chapel which itself was converted into living quarters. At the same time the small house adjacent to the Castle was built for kitchens, laundry and so forth. The Chapel was reduced internally and the passage and two small rooms were taken out of its west end. Recently the plain plaster ceiling of the passage was taken down and underneath were found the painted beams c. 1578.
Around 1630 the Chapel ceiling was painted, the subject the mounted Emperors and Kings of Europe and Northern Africa. They are: Britain, Poland, Sweden, Spain, Turkey, Hungary, Mauritania, Prester John (a supposed Christian ruler of Ethiopia), France and Germany. The source of these portraits remains untraced but most of them are good likenesses, i.e. Charles I and Henry IV (over the latter the painter has put the wrong title 'Imperator Germania' who in his turn is called 'Rex Francia'!). Broadly the portraits are untouched but in 1843 when the Chapel was restored to its present state much of the decoration surrounding them was re-done and the windows re-glazed with remnants of the original glass inserted. The two panels, France and Germany, were removed from above the altar and placed on the back wall and between them over the door the Drummond coat-of-arms which had probably been elsewhere in the Castle. The very large stone altar (all one piece) was put on new supports.
When Cromwell invaded Scotland some of his troops were stationed nearby at Drummond Castle and the Perths took refuge in the Highlands. With Cromwell's death they returned to Stobhall as Drummond Castle was damaged and uninhabitable. They found it small and built the Dower House in the 1660s adding the Pend archway into the Courtyard later. The family returned to a rebuilt Drummond Castle after a few years but as before used Stobhall from time to time.
After the Risings of 1715 and 1745 in which the Drummonds played a prominent part (they were always strong supporters of the Stuart Kings) all the properties were confiscated and the Earl (Duke) of Perth, Chief of the Drummond Clan, and his brother were attainted. In 1784 the lands were restored and subsequently descended through the female line to Baroness Willoughby De Eresby. Her father, the last Earl of Ancaster, in 1953 gave Stobhall to the present Earl of Perth for his home rather than to the Ministry of Works as an Ancient Monument. It was un-modernised and in bad condition and Lord and Lady Perth have done much restoration work and rebuilding including the Library in 1965. This is on the site of two 18th century semi-detached houses which in their turn may have been erected on the site of the original house.
Stobhall stands at the end of a ridge of land, high above the River Tay on one side and a burn on the other. From the car park one passes the 'Folly' (recently built) and the old stables, now garages and flats, to the small Topiary Garden before reaching the archway into the Courtyard. The Garden's layout is almost medieval: four flower beds enclosed in box and in the centre on a mound an early sundial c. 1660 on which are the Drummond arms and the initials EJP (Earl James Perth). Some of the Topiary, notably the box and holly, may have been planted when the Dower House was built. The containing wall on the south side is recorded in a poem by James IV to his love, Margaret Drummond. She and her two sisters died, probably poisoned to allow the King to marry Margaret Tudor.
Going through the archway and past the Chapel one can either turn right to come back along the "wlonkest waw", now planted with fruit trees, through a vegetable and nursery garden to the car park or go straight on past the Library and through the door in a low wall below the Chapel. This path leads either right to the River Tay or by the burn across a small wooden bridge to the woods planted with rhododendrons, azaleas, Japanese maples and other shrubs and up to the old orchard. To the right is another vegetable garden surrounded by an octagonal beech hedge, to the left a path across a stone bridge up to the stables.
The gardens and grounds at Stobhall are small in scale as are its many ancient buildings but they, together with the glorious views across the Tay to the distant hills and mountains, make an unforgettable whole.

Hello all. Nice site and guestbook. My father is from Alloa and my mother is English, I was born in Wiltshire around a hundred miles west of London. I visited Culloden last summer and can recommend it to any clan from further shores. Don't believe all the daft rubbish you may be hearing about Foot & Mouth on the news broadcasts, it's all media hysteria - come here and enjoy a holiday! :)

My great-great-grandfather Alexander Drummond (1786-1865) was a brother of John Drummond of Monzievaird, Perthshire, who married Marjory McGregor - see message by Jenny Drummond of Christchurch, NZ. John and Alexander as well as Marjory are understood to be descended from Rob Roy, although I have not yet established a definite connection - it is said that my branch is descended from one of Rob Roy's sons, probably Coll, who married a Miss Drummond and took her name. I also have Begg relatives on my mother's side who were originally Drummonds.

Hello to all DRUMMOND researchers:
Recently, I inherited a "memorial brooch" with this note attached:
"Memorial brooch for my Great Grand Father, Charles DRUMMOND, heir of the Earl of Perth, d. 1814 while playing a game of chess." (This note was written in 1880)
The brooch itself has this inscription:
"In memory
Chas Drummond
d 5 July 1814
abt 64"
I believe he was buried Bloomsbury, London.
(I also have a "memorial brooch" for a Penelope DRUMMOND d.1810...a daughter of Chas., I think.)
I am posting this message in hopes that other DRUMMOND searchers can provide further information.
Please contact me at jascott@canada.com if you have ANY ideas of what I should do now.
Thanks, to all intersted in the DRUMMOND family.

I am trying to locate some history on Drummond Island for a Michigan History course at Oakland Community College. I am having difficulty determining the history of this island. Hopefully someone can stir me in the right direction.
I am a decendent of Charles R. Drummond I of Lexington, MI. Grandad was originally from Boston, he passed away in 1985. Grandad used to tell his grandchildren much of the family history, I wish that I could remember all of his stories. The one that sticks in my mind is about Drummond Island, which is why I decided to do some research on that island. As the story goes, A British soldier was drawing a map on the borders between the US and Canada. He was invited to a game of cards by some Americans. The Americans got the Brit drunk, and so changed Drummond Island from being part of Canada, to being part of the US. Anyone with other information on this story, please e-mail me so that I can include this in my paper. Thanks

Has anyone been to the San Francisco Highland Games (In Pleasanton)? I have been there twice now. 99' & 00'. I made it there to my first games Ever in 99'. I saw the band/group Seven Nations there both times. And let me tell you they ROCKED! Besides them, the whole place had that feel of home. You Know. When you find your itch, or nich, (hows that saying go?). Killited Gent's with the self of place. In 99' it held the World's Heavy Championships for the games. And if i'm not mistaken, It was the first time it was held out side of Scotland. (Please correct me if I am wrong). Anyway, I know I'm going back this year for the twothousandandone (2001) gathering of the "136 Annual SCOTTISH GATHERING & GAMES". I believe Info can be found at "Caledonian Club Of San Francisco". I have just started to look into our side of the Drummond family. Information known is as follows.
Family 1. Lived in Comrie Scotland (I think)
Peter Drummond
Andrew Drummond
John Woods Drummond
Janet Drummond
Margaret Drummond
Either Peter or Andrew married a widow with 2 children, Margaret Neaves. Her son Norman took the Drummond name.
John married Mary Ferns, an Irish woman. They had 6 children (will give details shortly). He was a coal merchant in Comrie and died about 1953/53. Mary died about 1929/30.
Janet Drummond married William McCombie. They had no children.
Margaret was a spinster and had no children.
John and Mry's children were:
Georgina - married Bill Inglis and had one child Isabel
Margaret - married George Shanks. 2 children, Margaret and William Alexander
William - married mary cousins. No children
John Woods - married Josephine Clarice Thompson and had 5 kids. Morag Janet, Jillian Margaret, boy (name unknown, died young), John Woods (my father), Cherry. Will go into name of thier children soon.
Marie -
Douglas - married Jennifer
William and John went to South Australia in the late 1920's on a boat called the Orion. They later settled in West Australia. John (Jack) bought a farm in Mullewa, West Australia which was passed on to his son and sold in 1993.
Douglas lived in Comrie. Don't know about the rest.
Johns family are as follows:
Morag married Phillip McGregor and had 2 sons, Christopher and Jolyen.
Jill married Wayne Smith and had 2 daughters, Natalie and Kym.
John (Jock) married Bernadette Keeffe and had 3 children, Michael John, Patrina Maree (me!) and Renee Mary.
Cherry married Geoffrey Brady and had 2 kids, Heath and Ainsley.
I am currently in England and would like to hear from anyone who can claim to be a relation. Email address is pmdrummond@hotmail.com
I usually live in Geraldton, West Australia and although Australia is full of Drummond (they're all convicts!), I don't think we are related.
It will be good to hear from you

Another year down and we're still hoping to find the parents of James Drummond (Jr.) b. 1764 Cumberland County, PA. He enlisted in the Rev. War in 1777 and had an older brother, Samuel, also enlisted. He is buried in Silver Creek cemetery, Clark County, IN. Many thanks for your efforts in maintaining this sight! How do we make donations?

I have been scanning this site for updates. The last time I sent an email was March 98 and I still found it on the site I thought that was rather exciting.
I have been and am going again this time leaving in Feb 2001 and going straight to London and then to Scotland to see what other information I can find. I am so excited at the prospect of finding something that relates to my family and scared that I will find absolutly nothing.
If anyone has any information which may help me of where to begin when I get there that would be wonderful.
The furthest I have been able to go back is to Stirlingshire 1832 where Robert Drummond was born he married Jane Agnes Burns who was born in 1830 in Clackmonnonshire they were married in 13th May 1852 in Clackmannon country Tallacoultry and had 8 children 1 of these children was born on the boat "Blanche" in 1855-1856 they arrived in the Western District in 1856 (the rest of the 7 children were born in Australia) where Robert farmed for Messers Findlay Bros & Neil Black on a farm "Kellambete"(i think this was the name of the farm).
He then moved to Ballarat and worked in the diggings then went back to Geelong and worked on the farm "Glenoniston", after 5 years here he went to Talgarno Victoria and worked on a farm there still for Findlay Bros.
Jane Drummond made cheese which was sold in Yackandandah & Rutherglen. (best in the land they tell me)
Does any of this ring any bells with anyone.
Because I am stuck from here of where I can actually trace back any further.
NOTE: A great site to check out is

Wonderful site. Never realized quite how great our clan
was/is. I live in the New Orleans area, but the Drummond
side of my family is from the Eastern Shore of Virginia.
According to a tombstone in the Jamestown churchyard, we've
been there since 1609. It's been years since I've been there
and I can't recall the lady's given name, but the stone is
there. Gang Warily!

I have truly enjoyed this website. I was glad to see the castle Drummond. According to my great grandfather Drummond we are decendants of Drummond Royalty which was exiled from Scotland after having protected a king. I would like to have some help to prove what he has told us through the years. I am proud to be a Scot. My father's last name was Bruce, also a Scot.
